Scarlet Mela Festival of the Arts

Art
Nov 2021 - Apr 2022
Client: Scarlet Mela
Type: Branding and Website

Being the first of its kind, Scarlet Mela sets this new space that welcomes people to tell their stories through their work and a safe space for countered ideas to be discussed, debated and celebrated. As a creative body, they organically dialogue with each other — eventually resulting to the creation of a new kind of stage.

Each dance form has their own unique movements and gestures, expressing religious themes and cultures. As dancers progress around the stage, the movement of their bodies paint patterns on the floor and in the air. As such, we can understand the performer’s process of storytelling and their relationship with the open stage space.

We invited dancers from the festival to document their footwork. Each movement talks about the essence of each dance form and the meaning of each mark they make. The layers created becomes a textural and emotive approach to developing the key visual. Essentially, we see all three cultures creating their own layers on an open canvas that Scarlet Mela has set up for them.
