Woven material patterns familiar in a domestic setting are recontextualised to showcase how these Malay female writers subverted the culture of their time. From the fixed bounds of a rigid square, common notions are questioned and new ideas are presented. As an act of resistance, each push and moment of writing expands the parameters of our social fabric, for both men and women.
